One of the most exciting parts about getting a turtle is decorating the tank. Not only are you decorating the permanent home of your turtle and/or fish, but you are also creating the aesthetic of the room you put the tank in. We love seeing people that customize their aquariums with various decorations and themes. In today’s article, we are going to cover some of our favorite alien aquarium decorations. Hopefully these ornaments can help transform your aquarium into your own personal alien galaxy.
Best Alien Aquarium Decorations
This classic alien ornament is the perfect decoration if you are going for an alien themed aquarium. The Alien stands at 6.5 inches high, and there is a base that has a diameter of 4.9 inches. This Alien decoration is made of polyresin, which is safe for your turtle and/or fish. The wide base allows for the alien to stand straight up. If your turtle keeps knocking over the alien, we recommend burying the circular base under some rocks or whatever substrate you have in your tank.
The area 51 sign is another great option for an alien themed aquarium. The sign is made from non-toxic plastic and is safe for both fresh and saltwater aquarium. The sign is handcrafted with great detail. The dimensions of this piece are 4.25 x 4.75 x 4.25 inches. Underneath the sign is a small flying saucer which will also add great character to your aquarium. Similar to the alien decoration, the sign has a mounted base that allows it to stand straight up while it is underwater. There is also an option to replace the flying saucer with a skull, if you are going for more of a creepy vibe.
This flying UFO is definitely the most high-tech item on our list. The UFO must be attached to the air line from the air pump in your aquarium. This allows the UFO to fly up and down. This also causes air bubbles to be released from the top of the UFO, giving it a very realistic touch. You can increase or decrease the speed by controlling the amount of air released from the air pump valve. The UFO is is safe for both fresh and saltwater aquarium.
This decoration is a great way to make your aquarium more fun and interactive. The UFO has vibrant green and yellow colors which will certainly brighten up your aquarium. The dimensions of the entire piece is 4.3 x 3.9 x 5.6 inches. If you have your air pump on its regular settings, the UFO will go up and down approximately every 30 seconds. If you don’t have an air pump, you can just add this UFO as a stationary object that can sit at the bottom of your aquarium.
Last but not least we have the Crash UFO that is set on top of a small cave. The dimensions of this piece is 3 X 2 X 2 inches. The cave can offer a hiding spot if you have a small baby turtle. This piece is also great if you have fish in your aquarium, as the cave acts as an obstacle that fish can swim through. We recommend getting two or three of these ornaments if you want to fill up your aquarium.

Is it safe to put decorations in a turtle tank?
Yes, it is completely safe to put decorations in a turtle tank. However, you should confirm that the object is not made from a toxic material. The best material for turtle tank decorations is resin or other types of safe plastic. The key is to find a material that will not bleed into the water. If you start to notice that an ornament or decoration is losing color, or the color of the tank water is changing, you should take the decoration out immediately.
Do turtles like decorations in their tank?
Most turtles get bored pretty easily, so the addition of any decoration is a great way to keep them entertained. We recommend monitoring the turtle for a couple minutes after you first introduce the decoration to make sure the turtle doesn’t think it’s food and start eating it. Additionally, if you have a big turtle, you might want to find a way to stick or weigh down the decoration so your turtle doesn’t knock it over.
